UNCOMMON: Story behind the magazine
I changed the name of the magazine recently to UNCOMMON.
Sometimes i consider myself a little bit uncommon..i guess you have to be a little bit uncommon to head the streets with a off camera flash setup to make portraits.
Truth is once i get myself rewarded with a great portrait it doesn’t feel strange at all.

I am using a light stand with umbrella and a Godox TT600 and a remote trigger to fire my flash. So far I feel like getting the right results out of my camera. Most of the time I set my camera at ISO 800-1600 based on background exposure measured with my light meter, underexposing the background 1 or 2 stops is good enough. Then I start off my flash settings according to my ISO, so when my ISO is 800 I set my flash power 1/8, at ISO 1600 I set my flash power 1/16.
So for flash the rule is that aperture, ISO and shutter speed determine ambient light. The flash exposure is determined by flash output and aperture.
I use this information for shooting my portraits and then also I like to keep my shutter speed at around 500 for sharp images without blur even though I am using flash.
I start off most of my photo walks asking someone whether he or she likes to be photographed, then I try to find a great location for the portrait. A great location is usually the most challenging part for me but once found I fire off the camera. At the end of the shoot I ask people a few questions about the subject of the book and whether they know a similar situation from their life. At the end of the day I feel that once all pieces of the puzzle come together a great portrait exists.
I will continue writing this blog to keep you updated about the project. That’s it for now! Thank you for reading..
Robert.
